On February 23, 2021, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois filed a federal criminal case against Victor Manuel Frutos-Garcia, who was accused of committing a violent crime.
According to the indictment, Frutos-Garcia was charged with one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 922(g)(1). The alleged offense occurred on January 19, 2021, in the Northern District of Illinois.
The indictment also charged Frutos-Garcia with one count of possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine, in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Section 841(a)(1) and (b)(1)(A)(viii). The alleged offense occurred on January 19, 2021, in the Northern District of Illinois.
Frutos-Garcia was arrested and made his initial appearance in court on February 23, 2021. He was subsequently ordered to be detained pending trial due to the nature of the charges and the risk of flight.
A jury trial began on January 26, 2022. On February 4, 2022, Victor Manuel Frutos-Garcia was found guilty of the two counts charged in the indictment. He was later sentenced to 120 months in prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release. The court also ordered Frutos-Garcia to pay a $100 special assessment and forfeit $27,000 in cash and a 2018 Dodge Challenger.
