In a brazen scheme, a Waterbury man has admitted to robbing banks in Waterbury and New Britain, Connecticut. Victor Ramos, 31, pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery in federal court in Hartford.
According to court documents, on February 1, 2013, Ramos, along with Jose Rivera and others, committed an armed robbery of the TD Bank located on Hartford Road in New Britain. The group stole approximately $24,480.
Just over two weeks later, on February 21, 2013, the group struck again, this time at the TD Bank located on North Main Street in Waterbury. They stole around $5,319.
Ramos also admitted to violently stealing $100 from a small business in Waterbury on January 28, 2013.
Ramos has been detained since his arrest on June 5, 2013. His accomplice, Jose Rivera, 41, of Waterbury, has also been detained since his arrest on February 21, 2013. Rivera pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery on August 7, 2013.
Ramos and Rivera are scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Robert N. Chatigny on November 7, 2013. They face a maximum term of imprisonment of 25 years.
The case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Waterbury Police Department, and the New Britain Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Douglas P. Morabito.
