Tampa, Florida – In a shocking case of sex offender reentry, Victoriano Ruyan-Juarez, a 36-year-old Guatemalan national, has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for illegal reentry after deportation for a felony, and for failure to register as a sex offender, as required by the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.
According to court documents, Ruyan-Juarez pleaded guilty on April 27, 2017. The defendant’s crimes date back to April 2014, when he was convicted in Manatee County for traveling to entice a child to commit a sex act, as well as using a computer to do the same.
Following the completion of his state sentence in February 2015, immigration officials deported him to Guatemala. However, Ruyan-Juarez illegally reentered the United States in August 2015 and settled in Florida, but he failed to register as a sex offender as required by state and federal law.
Senior U.S. District Judge Susan C. Bucklew handed down the sentence in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida. The case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations and the U.S. Marshals Service.
The prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorney Frank Murray. Ruyan-Juarez’s crimes demonstrate a blatant disregard for the laws of this country and put innocent lives at risk.
As a result, Ruyan-Juarez will spend the next 18 months behind bars, a fitting punishment for his heinous crimes.
