Tuesday, June 8, 1915, was a dark day for the Villista forces as they suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of General Alvaro Obregón. The devastating blow to the Villistas was confirmed by Consul Silliman in a report sent to the State Department from Vera Cruz. According to Silliman, Obregón’s victory, which has been much talked about in recent days, seemed to be a reality. After five or six days of intense fighting, Obregón’s forces claimed victory, capturing all the transportation and artillery of the Villistas.
