Vinton Man Gets 15 Years Min for Child Porn Re-Offense

Brady David Salow, 27, a man with a history of crimes against children, has been found guilty of receiving child pornography while living in a residential facility in Vinton, Iowa.

Salow, who was residing at the facility as a condition of his 2019 sentence for four counts of possession of a depiction of a minor in a sex act in Dubuque County, used a scheme to access a cell phone and download the illicit material. The phone belonged to an employee who had loaned it to Salow under false pretenses.

Between summer 2023 and October 2023, Salow repeatedly accessed the phone and saved downloaded images to a hidden folder. It was only when a fellow resident alerted staff that Salow’s actions were discovered, and the phone was turned over for examination. A forensic analysis revealed the presence of child pornography, and Salow subsequently admitted to his crimes.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, with Assistant United States Attorney Dan Chatham leading the prosecution.

Salow faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years’ imprisonment and a possible maximum sentence of 40 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and a lifetime term of supervised release following any imprisonment.

Sentencing before United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams will be set after a presentence report is prepared. Salow remains in custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing.

The case file number is 23-CR-00089, and more information can be found on the court’s website at https://ecf.iand.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/login.pl.
