Grimy Times Exclusive: Laurinburg Man Sentenced to 180 Months in Prison for Firearms and Drug Charges

GREENSBORO, N.C. – In a shocking turn of events, Voneric Laquane Primus, a 36-year-old Laurinburg man, was sentenced to 180 months in federal prison for selling firearms and cocaine to a confidential informant.

According to sources, Primus pleaded guilty on September 5, 2018, to six counts of possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon, four counts of distribution of cocaine base (‘crack’), and one count of possessing a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime.

The crimes were committed on six separate occasions between May 2, 2018, and June 6, 2018, in Scotland County, North Carolina. Primus sold a total of seven handguns and approximately 252 grams of crack cocaine during that period.

Primus had previously been convicted of state felonies for discharging a weapon into occupied property, possession of a firearm by a felon, and possession of a Schedule II controlled substance.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Laurinburg Police Department, and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Anand P. Ramaswamy for the Middle District of North Carolina.

United States District Judge N. Carlton Tilley Jr. handed down the sentence of 180 months of imprisonment, followed by 5 years of supervised release.

Primus will serve his sentence at a federal correctional facility, where he will face strict supervision and monitoring.
