In the midst of a presidential election year, a sinister plot to disenfranchise hotel residents in New York City has come to light. As the second day of registration drew to a close, disturbing revelations emerged about the Coalition headquarters’ warning against a ruse to deprive women of their voting rights. According to John J. Lyons, the Coalition’s campaign manager, fake registration blanks had been circulated among hotel dwellers, attempting to deceive them into surrendering their right to vote.

The downturn in registrations was partly attributed to the observance of Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement. However, the real reason behind the drop in Manhattan Assembly district 130 lay in the lack of enthusiasm among voters. In a dismal display, only 130 persons registered on that day.
