A brazen heist on the outskirts of Milwaukee has left authorities scrambling for answers. On the night of February 9, 1922, a group of masked motor bandits, traveling in two cars, held up George Aikens at 1474 21st St. Aikens, a Chicagoan visiting Milwaukee, was visiting a saloon at Teutonia Ave and Hopkins St with a friend, Charles Papentine. Papentine suggested they visit a man named Cole at 1571 21st St, and the group set off in their car. However, it was Aikens who became the target of the thieves. The bandits, their faces hidden behind black masks, pulled up alongside Aikens and demanded that he hand over his valuables. Aikens was relieved of $520, a substantial sum for the time.
