War on the Horizon: Alliance Renounces Armistice, Adrianople on Fire

January 31, 1913, marked a turning point in the Balkan war as the allies renounced the armistice at 7 oclock, effectively dooming the fragile peace treaty. The decision to resume hostilities was made after a series of concessions by the Turks, but these offers fell short of Bulgaria’s demands. According to sources, the Turks were willing to cede control of the part of Adrianople where the holy shrines were situated and leave the disposition of the Aegean Islands to the powers. However, this was not enough to satisfy the Bulgaria’s appetite for war.
