ALEXANDRIA, Va. – In a stunning turn of events, Kiyel Tyquello Kearney, also known as “KhiGlock” and “Glock,” was yesterday sentenced to a year and six months in federal prison for his brazen illegal purchase of ammunition after having been previously convicted of a felony firearm offense.
Kearney, aged 20, drew the wrath of law enforcement following his conviction in Prince George’s County, Maryland’s Circuit Court on April 13, 2023. For his transgression of unlawful possession of a loaded handgun in a vehicle, Kearney was sentenced to serve time away from society.
Approximately three weeks post-conviction, the defendant, now labeled a recidivist, made his way to Arlington, Virginia, on May 3, 2023. There, he purchased ammunition from a federally licensed gun store, a move that was to prove as ill-fated as it was illegal.
As a convicted felon, Kearney was explicitly forbidden from owning or possessing firearms or ammunition. His actions did not go unnoticed, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) swiftly stepped in to ensure justice was served.
The solemn announcement of Kearney’s sentence came after he faced U.S. District Judge Patricia Tolliver Giles. Jessica D. Aber, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, alongside ATF Special Agent in Charge Craig Kailimai, emphasized the gravity of Kearney’s crime and the commitment to upholding federal firearms laws.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel K. Amzallag was the lead prosecutor on the case.
