Waterloo man Todd Deangelo Goodson, 27, was sentenced yesterday to 111 months in federal prison for illegally possessing a firearm and ammunition — a violation of federal law due to his status as a convicted felon.
Goodson pleaded guilty on September 28, 2017, to possession of firearms and ammunition by a felon. Court documents reveal he admitted to having a Beretta .45 caliber pistol, a Px4 Storm AK47 .223 rifle, and 9mm ammunition on June 8, 2017. The weapons were found during a drug investigation that led to a search warrant at his Waterloo residence.
Law enforcement officers seized not only the firearms and rounds but also marijuana, cocaine, a cutting agent, drug packaging materials, a led ledger, and cash. The raid, conducted by a federal task force, confirmed Goodson’s active role in the distribution of illegal narcotics — a pattern that escalated his sentencing exposure.
U.S. District Court Judge Linda R. Reade handed down the sentence in Cedar Rapids, imposing 111 months behind bars, a $100 special assessment, and a mandatory 3-year term of supervised release post-incarceration. Under federal law, Goodson will not be eligible for parole.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lisa C. Williams and investigated by a multi-agency task force including the Waterloo Police Department, FBI, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), with support from the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office and Cedar Falls Police Department.
This prosecution was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a DOJ initiative reinvigorated in October 2017 under then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions to combat rising violent crime. Court records are available via the Northern District of Iowa’s public docket system under case number 17-cr-2056. Goodson remains in U.S. Marshals custody pending transfer to federal prison.
