Waterloo Woman Sentenced to Ten Years for Meth Trafficking

Waterloo, IA – A relentless battle against the drug trade has resulted in a decade-long sentence for Breanna Garcia, 34, of Waterloo, Iowa. The hard-hitting crime journalist at Grimy Times reveals that Garcia was sentenced to ten years in federal prison for her involvement in a major methamphetamine trafficking operation.

Garcia’s journey into the criminal underworld began when she pleaded guilty on May 3, 2021, to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. The investigation into this large-scale drug ring, spanning from Mexico to Iowa, kicked off in 2018. Wiretaps on a phone used by Garcia’s boyfriend, Travis Werkmeister, revealed thousands of calls and texts with fellow traffickers, including Garcia.

With Werkmeister acting as a middleman and Mario Hernandez at the helm from Mexico, Garcia was tasked with collecting money for Werkmeister and meeting with other ring members. Her criminal history dates back to 2006, and she has accumulated 21 convictions since then.

The sentence came down in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Judge C.J. Williams, who sentenced Garcia to 120 months’ imprisonment. She must also serve a five-year term of supervised release post-prison and pay a $100 special assessment fee. The federal system does not offer parole for Garcia’s crime.

Assistant United States Attorney Ashley Corkery handled the prosecution, while the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) coordinated the investigation through various law enforcement agencies including the Mid-Iowa Task Force, Iowa National Guard, and local police departments. The case file number is 20-CR-2034.
