Jason E. Slocum, a 44-year-old Wellsville resident, has admitted to being a felon in possession of firearms, according to a guilty plea entered before Senior U.S. District Judge William M. Skretny.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Misha A. Coulson said that on October 1, 2018, a 911 caller reported a domestic dispute at Slocum’s residence on Williams Avenue in Wellsville. When police arrived, they found a female sitting in a vehicle, in the driveway of the residence, smoking a cigarette. The woman was a resident of the home and reported that she and Slocum, who have a child together, had started arguing that morning.
The woman claimed that during their argument, Slocum damaged her cellphone and other items around the house. Following the argument, the woman went outside and Slocum locked her out of the house, preventing her from entering the residence again. The woman also told officers that her autistic son was still inside with Slocum.
Wellsville police officers then conducted a room-by-room safety sweep of the residence to ensure there were no additional people present. During the sweep, they discovered an AK-style rifle in Slocum’s bedroom.
Officers then executed a search warrant of the residence and recovered several firearms, including an AK-style semi-automatic rifle, and ammunition. Slocum was previously convicted of Attempted Burglary in Allegany County Court in 1996 and is therefore prohibited from possessing a firearm.
The investigation was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge John B. Devito, New York Field Division, and the Wellsville Police Department, under the direction of Chief Steven Mattison.
Slocum faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000. Sentencing is scheduled for June 8, 2020, at 9:00 a.m. before Judge Skretny.
