On January 9, 2020, the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland announced the filing of a federal criminal case against 35-year-old, Terrance West Jr. The case, which was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, alleged that West Jr. was involved in a violent crime spree in Baltimore, Maryland.
According to court documents, West Jr. faced multiple charges including, Hobbs Act Robbery, conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act Robbery, and use of a firearm during a crime of violence. The charges stemmed from a string of armed robberies that took place in early 2019.
The investigation, which was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Baltimore Police Department, revealed that West Jr. and his co-conspirators targeted convenience stores and other businesses in the city. During the robberies, the group allegedly used firearms and threatened the victims, causing them to fear for their lives.
The case against West Jr. was the result of a collaborative effort between federal and local law enforcement agencies. The U.S. Attorney’s Office praised the work of the investigators and prosecutors who worked tirelessly to bring the case to fruition.
In a statement released at the time of the filing, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland said, ‘The charges filed today demonstrate our commitment to holding individuals accountable for violent crimes that terrorize our communities.’
West Jr. was subsequently arrested and taken into custody. His case was assigned to U.S. District Judge Catherine C. Blake, who presided over the proceedings. West Jr. entered a guilty plea in November 2022 and was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison in January 2023.
