Westbrook Man Pleads Guilty to Armed Robbery Spree

Travis Jonathon Card, 38, of Westbrook, Maine, has pleaded guilty to interfering with commerce by robbery, in connection with a string of armed robberies in the greater Portland area in March and April 2018.

According to court records, Card brandished what appeared to be a firearm and robbed several businesses, including the Riverton Gas Station in Portland, the Lil’ Mart Gas Station in Falmouth, Good Things Variety in Westbrook, Express Mart in Cumberland, and the Daily Grind in Westbrook. He also attempted to rob China Taste in Portland, Subway in Westbrook, Aroma Joe’s in South Portland, and Moby Dick Variety in Old Orchard Beach.

Card’s crimes occurred over the course of 11 days, with the first robbery happening on March 20 and the last on April 11. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each robbery or attempt.

Card will be sentenced after the completion of a presentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office. The investigation was conducted by the FBI’s Southern Maine Gang Task Force, which is comprised of agents and officers from the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Portland, South Portland, and Lewiston Police Departments, in conjunction with the Westbrook, Falmouth, Cumberland, and Old Orchard Beach Police Departments.

The guilty plea was announced by United States Attorney Halsey B. Frank. Card’s sentencing is pending.

The case highlights the need for increased security measures in businesses, particularly in areas with high crime rates.
