Bergen County Man Sentenced to Prison for Robbery and Kidnapping
A Bergen County man was sentenced to prison for his role in the robbery of a North Jersey bar and the violent carjacking and kidnapping of a taxi driver.
Wilbur Jonathon Barahona, 22, of Ridgewood, New Jersey, was sentenced to 65 months in prison for his involvement in the December 2015 robbery of a bar in Hawthorne, New Jersey, and the violent carjacking and kidnapping of a taxi driver in Paterson, New Jersey.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Barahona pleaded guilty to a three-count information charging him with conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act Robbery, carjacking, and kidnapping. He admitted to taking part in the robbery of the bar on December 25, 2015, and the carjacking and kidnapping of the taxi driver on December 26, 2015.
During the carjacking, Barahona and his accomplices caused serious bodily injury to the driver, who was hit in the head with a beer bottle and sliced in the throat with a knife. The driver survived and was left on the side of the road in New York.
Barahona was also sentenced to five years of supervised release and fined $1,500. The case was investigated by the FBI, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Ridgewood and Hawthorne Police Departments.
