Baltimore Man Pleads Guilty to Firearm Charge

In a guilty plea announced by United States Attorney Robert K. Hur, 30-year-old William Garland of Baltimore, Maryland, has admitted to being a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to court documents, on January 4, 2019, Baltimore County’s Criminal Apprehension Support Team executed an arrest warrant for Garland in connection with a theft that occurred on December 21, 2018. During the arrest, officers recovered a loaded 9mm handgun from Garland’s right front jacket pocket.

The firearm, a 9mm handgun, was determined to have been stolen from a Virginia federal firearms licensee in February 2015. Garland, who had a previous felony conviction, was prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition at the time of the arrest.

The case is part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) program, a collaborative effort between law enforcement and the community to reduce violent crime. The program focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs.

United States Attorney Robert K. Hur commended the ATF and the Baltimore County Police Department for their work in the investigation. He also thanked Assistant U.S. Attorney Lindsey N. McCulley for prosecuting the case.

Garland is set to be sentenced to six years in federal prison, with U.S. District Judge George L. Russell, III scheduled to preside over the sentencing on July 30, 2020.
