William Henry Foster, Assault on Correctional Officer, Pennsylvania 2022

William Henry Foster, a 35-year-old federal inmate, has been sentenced to 12 months in prison for assaulting a correctional officer at the United States Penitentiary in Allenwood, Pennsylvania.

On September 16, 2019, Foster aggressively confronted a Bureau of Prisons senior officer in his housing unit, refusing to leave despite being ordered to do so. The officer attempted to physically remove Foster, prompting him to punch the officer in the head and torso. The officer sustained abrasions on his left hand and neck and a head contusion.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Drew O. Inman and Assistant U.S. Attorney Alisan V. Martin prosecuted the case.

Foster’s sentence will run consecutively to his current 300-month federal sentence for conspiring to commit murder. The assault on the correctional officer occurred while Foster was already serving his murder conspiracy sentence.

U.S. Attorney John C. Gurganus stated that the sentence reflects the severity of Foster’s actions and the importance of protecting federal officers who put their lives on the line every day. The assault on the officer was a serious offense that caused physical harm and disruption to the prison environment.

The sentencing hearing took place on March 1, 2022, before United States District Court Chief Judge Matthew W. Brann. Foster will serve his 12-month sentence in addition to his existing 300-month sentence. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of accountability and the consequences of violent behavior in federal prisons.
