Waterloo, IA – In a shocking turn of events, a 28-year-old Waterloo man has been sentenced to 42 months in federal prison for possessing a firearm as a felon.

According to authorities, William Rashad Burt was one of five guns found during a search of a house in Waterloo, Iowa, on July 6, 2021. Burt, who was found with a revolver and $1,272 in cash, was also found to have evidence of marijuana trafficking.

During his arrest, Burt allegedly threatened law enforcement officers, stating that he would obtain more guns. This threat, combined with his previous conviction for possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, led to his guilty plea to possession of a firearm by a felon on February 22, 2022.

Burt’s co-defendants, Qunshaundes Davion McNealy, William McNealy III, and Sahjit Mcyle Phillips, were sentenced on June 10, 2022, to 120 months, 87 months, and 110 months in prison, respectively.

The case against Burt was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime. Through PSN, a broad spectrum of stakeholders work together to identify and address the most pressing violent crime problems in the community.

Burt is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison. His three-year term of supervised release will begin after he completes his prison sentence.
