A Somerville man has been sentenced to nearly nine years in prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking conspiracy.
William Velez, 41, was sentenced to 105 months in prison and three years of supervised release by U.S. District Court Judge Denise J. Casper on July 19, 2023 in federal court in Boston.
Velez pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine in March 2022.
The methamphetamine trafficking conspiracy took place from October 2019 through September 2020, with Velez and others distributing and possessing the drug throughout the Everett and Boston areas.
Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy and Brian D. Boyle, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s New England Division, made the announcement today.
Assistant United States Attorney Alathea Porter of the Narcotics & Money Laundering Unit prosecuted the case.
The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat the scourge of methamphetamine trafficking in the region.
