Williston Predator Gets 50-Year Sentence for Child Exploitation

Williston, ND – In a chilling case of child exploitation, Nicholas Anfin Nesdahl, 29, from Williston, ND, faced justice today as he was sentenced to a staggering 50 years in federal prison. The sentence was announced by United States Attorney Mac Schneider, District of North Dakota, after Nesdahl’s appearance before District Court Judge Daniel M. Traynor.

Nesdahl stood accused of producing or attempting to produce images and videos depicting the sexual exploitation of minors across multiple states, including North Dakota and Pennsylvania. He was handed a sentence of 30 years for North Dakota charges and 20 years for Pennsylvania charges, to be served consecutively, followed by a lifetime of supervised release.

Law enforcement’s investigation began following a report from a Pennsylvania parent who discovered the exploitation of their children. This led to a search of Nesdahl’s residence in Williston, revealing his shocking abuse of at least seven other minors spanning North Dakota, Minnesota, Maryland, Texas, and New Jersey, with ages ranging from 6 to 15 years old.

“This 50-year sentence is a fitting one considering this defendant’s abhorrent treatment of children,” Schneider commented. “Our state, federal, and local law enforcement partners will continue using every tool at our disposal to bring predators like Nesdahl to justice.”

Jamie Holt, HSI St. Paul Special Agent in Charge, echoed the urgency, warning parents and guardians about the dangers of online platforms. “It’s crucial that adults talk to kids and provide oversight to protect them from predators,” she said.

The case was prosecuted under Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative aimed at protecting children from online exploitation. It was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigations Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Gary Delorme leading the prosecution.”
