OCALA, FL – A family of fraudsters is facing federal prison time after admitting to a brazen scheme to rip off the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Miller Wilson, Jr. (50, Sparr), his daughter, Myoshi Wilson (26, Citra), and sister, Erica Wilson (43, Ocala) have all pleaded guilty to charges related to defrauding the VA healthcare system in The Villages, Florida. The trio systematically exploited a program designed to provide vital care to those who served our nation, lining their pockets with over $300,000 in stolen funds.
Miller Wilson, Jr., the architect of the scheme, pleaded guilty today to conspiracy to commit health care fraud and wire fraud, as well as solicitation and receipt of a health care kickback. He faces a maximum of 5 years behind bars for the conspiracy charge and a hefty 10-year sentence for the kickback offense. Erica Wilson, who entered her guilty plea on March 5, 2020, admitted to conspiracy to commit health care fraud and wire fraud, carrying a potential 5-year prison term. Myoshi Wilson, having previously pleaded guilty on February 18, 2020, to making false statements to law enforcement, also faces up to 5 years in federal prison. All three are scheduled to be sentenced on October 6, 2020.
Court documents reveal that Miller Wilson, Jr. leveraged his position as an employee at the VA Clinic in The Villages to manipulate the system. From 2014 through 2016, he accepted cash kickbacks from transportation vendors in exchange for awarding them lucrative healthcare contracts. Not content with simply skimming off the top, Wilson then escalated the scheme, conspiring with his daughter and sister from 2016-2017 to establish two transportation companies specifically designed to continue the fraudulent activity.
Using his official VA access, Wilson funneled contracts to these newly formed companies, effectively turning the program into a personal piggy bank. Over a 17-month period, the two companies brazenly billed the federal government a staggering $305,673. The scheme was meticulously crafted to appear legitimate, but investigators eventually uncovered the web of deceit. Myoshi Wilson’s attempt to cover up the conspiracy by providing false statements to a federal agent in 2019 ultimately proved futile.
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of Inspector General, led the investigation, meticulously piecing together the evidence of Wilson’s exploitation. Assistant United States Attorney Michael P. Felicetta is prosecuting the case, determined to hold the Wilson family accountable for their betrayal of veterans and taxpayers. This case serves as a stark reminder that those who prey on programs designed to help our nation’s heroes will face the full force of the law.
The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case as sentencing approaches, providing updates on the fate of Miller Wilson, Jr., Myoshi Wilson, and Erica Wilson. This is yet another example of the rampant corruption that continues to plague federal programs, and the Grimy Times remains committed to exposing these crimes and bringing those responsible to justice.
