A 23-year-old Waterloo woman was convicted of lying to buy guns, a crime that could land her in prison for up to 5 years and cost her $250,000.
Jamie Marie Graham, 23, of Waterloo, Iowa, was found guilty of making a false statement during the purchase of a firearm. Graham admitted to purchasing firearms from Mr. Guns in Waterloo in December 2020 and filling out a form stating she was the actual purchaser. However, she knew that was a lie, as another person was buying the guns.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime. Through PSN, law enforcement agencies work together to identify and address violent crime problems in the community. The program has been proven to be effective in reducing violent crime.
Graham faces a possible maximum sentence of 5 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and 3 years of supervised release following any imprisonment. She is currently free on bond pending sentencing.
The case was investigated by the Cedar Rapids Safe Streets Task Force and Waterloo Police Department. The task force is composed of representatives from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
Graham’s sentencing will be set after a presentence report is prepared. Assistant United States Attorney Dan Chatham is prosecuting the case. The case file number is 20-CR-115-CJW and can be found at ecf.iand.uscourts.gov.
