A Rosebud woman will spend a year on probation for her role in hiding a fugitive with an active arrest warrant.
Samantha Spotted War Bonnet, 24, was sentenced on April 28, 2015, by U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno after being found guilty of Concealing Person from Arrest.
According to the court records, Spotted War Bonnet harbored and concealed the fugitive between June 12, 2014, and June 13, 2014. This crime was investigated by the U.S. Marshals Service and the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy M. Maher prosecuted the case and secured a guilty plea from Spotted War Bonnet on the same day she was sentenced.
As part of her sentence, Spotted War Bonnet was ordered to pay a $25 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Spotted War Bonnet’s decision to hide the fugitive was a serious offense, and her punishment reflects the gravity of her actions.
The case serves as a reminder of the consequences of hiding fugitives from law enforcement, and the importance of cooperation in maintaining public safety.
