A brutal assault has shaken the quiet streets of Oglala, South Dakota. On March 2013, at Oglala, Billy Bores a Hole, 28, assaulted a woman by kicking her and stabbing her in the head, neck, back, and stomach, causing life-threatening injuries.
The victim, whose name has not been released, suffered severe injuries in the unprovoked attack. According to eyewitnesses, the assault occurred without warning and left the woman fighting for her life.
U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Billy Bores a Hole appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Veronica L. Duffy on July 19, 2013, and pled guilty to a charge of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.
The maximum penalty upon conviction is 10 years’ imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine. The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs Office of Justice Services and the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah B. Collins is handling the case, which is now moving towards sentencing. A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date will be set.
The defendant, Billy Bores a Hole, was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending sentencing. The people of Oglala are left to wonder how such a heinous crime could occur in their quiet community.
