A Philadelphia man has been charged with a string of crimes related to mail theft, including impersonating a U.S. Postal Service (USPS) mail carrier and possessing stolen mail.
Zachkey James, 27, of Philadelphia, was charged by indictment with impersonation of a U.S. Postal Service mail carrier, unlawful possession of three USPS Arrow Keys, mail theft, and possession of stolen mail.
According to the indictment, James stole undelivered mail from collection boxes located near the Kingsessing Post Office in Philadelphia in July 2022. He allegedly repeated this crime in October 2022, stealing mail from a collection box near the East Germantown Post Office.
In November 2022, James was found to be in possession of three USPS Arrow Keys and approximately 15 mail-in ballots that had been stolen from USPS collection boxes.
James faces a maximum of 31 years in prison and a $1,500,000 fine if convicted.
The case was investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service, and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Patrick Brown.
An indictment is an accusation. James is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
