Richfield’s Jon D. Zapisek, a former financial planner for John Hancock Financial, has been sentenced to eight months of home confinement and ordered to pay restitution after pleading guilty to two counts of willful failure to file tax returns.
The 41-year-old is now facing the consequences of his actions, which saw him evade over $600,000 in taxable income between 2006 and 2010, resulting in a debt exceeding $100,000 to the IRS.
United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, Steven M. Dettelbach, and Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigations Special Agent in Charge Darryl Williams announced the sentence, which also includes a restitution order to make up for the unpaid taxes.
Zapisek’s case was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin J. Roberts, who ensured justice was served following an extensive investigation by the IRS-CI.
This is a stark reminder of the repercussions facing those who choose to engage in financial misconduct, and it sends a clear message that the IRS will pursue tax evaders with unwavering determination.
As the community reflects on this case, it underscores the importance of integrity in financial professions and the critical role of law enforcement in protecting the public from such corrupt practices.
