$1.5 Million Art Gallery Embezzler Faces 20 Years
Orlando, FL – In a shocking case of corporate deceit, former art gallery employee Jeffrey Hall (48, Maitland) has pleaded guilty to mail fraud, netting him a possible 20-year prison sentence.
As part of his plea agreement, Hall has agreed to pay over $1.5 million in restitution, a staggering sum that highlights the extent of his crimes.
According to court documents, Hall worked at a local art gallery with multiple locations outside of Central Florida. Over a two-year period, he used his position to embezzle over $1.5 million by diverting proceeds from the sale of artwork to his own personal bank accounts or to a business account that belonged to him.
Hall’s scheme also involved using the gallery’s artwork as loan collateral for himself and selling some of the artwork on eBay, further exacerbating the losses suffered by the gallery.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg handling the prosecution.
Hall’s sentencing has been scheduled for February 19, 2015, a date that will mark the culmination of a lengthy investigation into his crimes.
The Orlando community is breathing a sigh of relief as news of Hall’s guilty plea spreads, with many calling for tougher penalties for white-collar crimes.
