Tamarac Man Sentenced to 12 Years for Being a Felon in Possession of a Loaded Firearm
A 34-year-old man from Tamarac, Florida, has been sentenced to over 12 years in prison for being a felon unlawfully in possession of a loaded firearm while being the subject of a Domestic Violence Protection Order.
Terry Cadet, a Tamarac resident, was sentenced to 151 months in prison, to be followed by 3 years of supervised release, by United States District Senior Judge James I. Cohn. Cadet had previously pled guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
According to the court record, on February 18, 2018, Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a domestic violence call in Hallandale Beach, Florida. During the course of Cadet’s arrest for domestic violence, deputies discovered a 9mm pistol, with an obliterated serial number, secreted on Cadet’s person. The firearm was loaded with ten rounds of ammunition.
Cadet was a convicted felon and thereby prohibited from being in possession of a firearm or ammunition at the time of his arrest. In addition, a pending Domestic Violence Protection Order required Cadet to have previously surrendered any firearms and ammunition in his possession to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.
U.S. Attorney Benjamin G. Greenberg commended the investigative efforts of the ATF and BSO in this matter. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jodi L. Anton.
This case stems from Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.
