Grimy Times Exclusive: A coordinated investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation led to the indictment of 14 Central Pennsylvania men on charges of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine and methamphetamine.
The indictment, announced by United States Attorney Peter Smith, charges Phillip Bennett, 43, of Elizabethtown, and 13 others with operating a massive cocaine and methamphetamine trafficking ring that spanned seven counties in Central Pennsylvania.
According to the indictment, the conspiracy extended over 14 months from December 2014 to April 2016 and took place in Cumberland, Dauphin, York, Snyder, Northumberland, Berks, and Perry Counties.
The defendants, who range in age from 29 to 50, were taken into custody today in a coordinated effort by law enforcement agencies. The indictment seeks forfeiture of approximately $156,574 from defendant Scott Ohler.
The prosecution has been assigned to Assistant U.S. Attorneys Christy Fawcett and Chelsea Schinnour. The maximum penalty under federal law is life imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine.
The indictment is only an allegation, and all persons charged are presumed to be innocent unless and until found guilty in court. A sentence following a finding of guilt is imposed by the Judge after consideration of the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
The indictment highlights the ongoing struggle against drug trafficking in Central Pennsylvania. The investigation and arrests demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement agencies to protect the community and bring those responsible to justice.
