Mukengi Wilson, Crack Cocaine Distribution, Maryland 2013

Baltimore, Maryland – In a shocking turn of events, 41-year-old Mukengi Wilson of Towson, Maryland, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for his involvement in a string of crimes that have left the community reeling.

Wilson, a convicted felon, was found to be in possession of crack cocaine with the intent to distribute, a firearm, and attempted to tamper with a witness. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Ellen L. Hollander and comes after a lengthy investigation by the ATF, Baltimore Police Department, and Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office.

According to court documents, on October 5, 2013, law enforcement officers observed Wilson engaging in several hand-to-hand drug transactions at a narcotics shop operating at the intersection of East Lafayette and North Montford Avenues in Baltimore. When approached by officers, Wilson attempted to flee, throwing small objects to the ground and reaching into his waistband to remove a clear plastic bag containing nineteen zip lock baggies of crack cocaine.

Wilson also informed officers that there was a gun in the basement of his girlfriend’s house at 2301 East Lafayette Street, which was subsequently found by officers during a search of the premises. The gun, a 9mm semiautomatic handgun, was loaded with one round of ammunition in the chamber and three rounds of ammunition in the magazine, with the hammer cocked.

In a separate incident, Wilson admitted to shooting at a man referred to as “Love” after the man sped through the intersection of East Lafayette and North Montford Avenues. The vehicle crashed, but “Love” was able to drive away.

Wilson also made repeated telephone calls to a witness, encouraging them to give false testimony in U.S. District Court. The telephone calls were made on recorded, monitored jailhouse telephone systems.

United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein commended the ATF, Baltimore Police Department, and Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office for their work in the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Scott A. Lemmon prosecuted the case.
