WASHINGTON – In a shocking turn of events, Javon Roach, 20, has been sentenced to 19 years in federal prison for his involvement in a violent spree of armed carjackings and robberies across the District of Columbia. The sentence was announced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.
The judge’s decision followed a string of events that began on March 6, 2023, with Roach committing six armed carjackings and five armed robberies over three weeks. His spree reached its climax in a high-speed chase and assault on a police officer, leading to his arrest in Fairfax County on March 30, 2023.
Roach pleaded guilty two years later, on March 6, 2025, to three counts of carjacking and two counts of brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. U.S. District Court Judge Rudolph Contreras also ordered Roach to serve five years of supervised release upon his release from prison.
Court documents reveal that Roach’s spree began with the carjacking of a male victim on G Street SW, where he struck the victim seven times before taking the vehicle. His brazen behavior continued with several high-profile incidents, including a daylight robbery at gunpoint in the heart of the city.
One particularly chilling incident occurred when Roach and his co-defendant Andre Rushing robbed a delivery driver on Benning Road NE, followed by an assault on three men. The spree culminated in a shooting linked to a March 20, 2023, incident that left a .40 caliber spent shell casing at the scene.
Roach’s arrest came after he and his co-conspirators were tracked down during a high-speed chase that resulted in an assault on a police officer. Roach’s prison sentence is a stark reminder of the violence that plagued Washington, D.C., during this period.
