20-Year-Old from Mission, SD Indicted for Assault on Officer & Larceny

Grimey Times has learned that a 20-year-old man from Mission, South Dakota, is facing federal charges for assaulting a law enforcement officer and committing larceny. Justin Fast Horse, 20, was indicted by a federal grand jury on March 15, 2017, for the violent offense.

According to U.S. Attorney Randolph J. Seiler, Fast Horse appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on March 20, 2017, where he entered a not guilty plea to the charges. The maximum penalty for Assaulting, Resisting, and Impeding a Federal Officer could see him spending up to 20 years behind bars and paying a fine of $250,000.

The indictment further alleges that on March 3, 2017, Fast Horse forcibly attacked a law enforcement officer employed by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe while the officer was carrying out his duties. Additionally, Fast Horse is charged with unlawfully taking and carrying away a pickup truck belonging to someone else, an act of larceny that could carry a penalty of up to 5 years in custody and a $250,000 fine.

Both charges could also result in 3 years of supervised release and a contribution to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Fast Horse is presumed innocent until proven guilty, as is his right under the law.

The investigation into these serious allegations is being led by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk Albertson prosecuting the case. Fast Horse has been remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial, and no trial date has yet been set.
