Nakita Walker, a 45-year-old DC woman, has been sentenced to 29 years in prison for a horrific crash on Rock Creek Parkway that killed three people in March 2023. The deadly incident occurred when Walker, who was fleeing a police officer, crossed the double-yellow line and collided with another vehicle, killing all its occupants. The crash happened on March 15, 2023, after Walker was pulled over for speeding and running a red light.
According to evidence, Walker had been out with friends and was driving home in the early hours when she was stopped by a Park Police officer. Initially, she complied with the stop, but then took off, reaching speeds of 100 mph on Rock Creek Parkway. The officer’s attempt to pull her over was sparked by her reckless driving, which ultimately led to the tragic loss of three lives.
Walker was found guilty of three counts of involuntary manslaughter, one count of fleeing a law enforcement officer, and one count of assault with a dangerous weapon. The sentence was handed down by Judge Rainey Brandt of the DC Superior Court, who acknowledged the profound harm caused by Walker’s actions. The case was prosecuted by Assistant US Attorney Jamie Carter, with the US Attorney’s Office and the US Park Police working together to bring Walker to justice.
The incident highlights the devastating consequences of fleeing law enforcement and reckless driving. US Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro stated that the sentence reflects the harm caused and serves as a reminder that such actions will not be tolerated. The case has brought closure to the families of the victims, but the pain of their loss will never fully heal.
