Kansas City, MO – Steven Michael George, 45, of Belton, Missouri, will spend the next three decades in federal prison after being sentenced to 360 months for distributing sickening child pornography. U.S. District Judge Stephen R. Bough handed down the sentence today, along with 30 years of supervised release after George gets out.

George pleaded guilty to sharing images and videos of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) online using a peer-to-peer file-sharing program between March and July of 2023. A search of his devices turned up even more depraved content. This wasn’t a first offense; George’s past includes Missouri convictions for first-degree statutory sodomy, first-degree child molestation, and prior possession of child pornography – escalating the penalty he faced.

Judge Bough didn’t just lock him up. George was ordered to pay $36,000 in restitution to the victims shown in the images and videos. When he’s finally released, he’ll be required to register as a sex offender for life, complying with both federal and state requirements.

The FBI and Kansas City Police Department handled the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Alison D. Dunning prosecuted the case, which falls under the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood initiative, a nationwide effort to combat child sexual exploitation.
