INDIANAPOLIS— Roy King, 42, of Indianapolis, has been sentenced to 97 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, after pleading guilty to three counts of interference with commerce by robbery and one count of attempted robbery.
According to court documents, on three separate occasions in September of 2023, King robbed multiple spa and massage parlors in Indianapolis. During each of these robberies, King held employees at gunpoint and demanded cash. The brazen crimes sent shockwaves through the community, leaving innocent victims shaken and traumatized.
The attempted robbery, which took place on October 8, 2023, was a particularly egregious example of King’s disregard for human life. On this occasion, he brandished a TV remote, pretending it was a gun, and attempted to rob the N Spa on East Washington St. Fortunately, his ruse was quickly discovered, and he was apprehended by law enforcement.
King’s lengthy criminal history, dating back to 2003, is a testament to his repeated failures to reform. His record includes convictions related to assault with a deadly weapon, gang activity, and distribution of controlled substances. It’s clear that King’s actions have caused irreparable harm to countless individuals and families, and his sentence serves as a stark reminder that violent crime will not be tolerated.
U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Myers expressed his satisfaction with the sentence, stating, “Four different times, three of them at gunpoint, King chose to terrorize innocent people who had the misfortune to work at a business this violent criminal decided to target. Each time, he made them fear for their lives just so he could steal a few hundred dollars.”
The FBI investigated this case, and U.S. District Court Judge Matthew P. Brookman imposed the sentence. U.S. Attorney Myers thanked Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeremy C. Fugate for his tireless efforts in prosecuting this case.
