Roy King, Armed Massage Parlor Robberies, Indiana 2024

INDIANAPOLIS – In a string of brazen crimes, Roy King, 42, of Indianapolis, orchestrated a series of armed robberies targeting massage parlors in the city. The defendant’s violent spree, which spanned multiple locations, has earned him a 97-month prison sentence, followed by three years of supervised release.

According to court documents, King committed three separate armed robberies in September 2023, holding employees at gunpoint and demanding cash. The defendant’s modus operandi remained consistent throughout the robberies: use a firearm to intimidate victims and make off with a small amount of cash. The robberies occurred at Angel Spa on Michigan Rd, Sunshine Spa on North Post Rd, and Rosemary Massage Parlor on South Gray Rd.

On October 8, 2023, King attempted to rob a fourth spa, N Spa on East Washington St, but this time he opted for a TV remote, pretending it was a firearm. The ruse failed, and King was apprehended. Despite the defendant’s creative attempt to deceive, his true intention remained clear: to terrorize and profit from innocent business owners.

The defendant’s lengthy criminal history, dating back to 2003, speaks to a pattern of violent behavior. King’s convictions include assault with a deadly weapon, gang activity, and distribution of controlled substances. This history of violence and lawlessness has earned him a place behind bars, where he will serve 97 months for his crimes.

U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Myers condemned King’s actions, stating, “Four different times, three of them at gunpoint, the defendant chose to terrorize innocent people who had the misfortune to work at a business this violent criminal decided to target. Each time, he made them fear for their lives just so he could steal a few hundred dollars.”

The FBI investigated this case, and U.S. District Court Judge Matthew P. Brookman imposed the sentence. U.S. Attorney Myers thanked Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeremy C. Fugate for prosecuting the case. This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities nationwide.

As the city of Indianapolis continues to grapple with the issue of violent crime, this sentencing serves as a stark reminder that those who choose to engage in such behavior will be held accountable. The 97-month prison sentence imposed on Roy King sends a clear message: armed robbery and violence will not be tolerated in our communities.
