Edward V. Laboursoliere, Machine Gun Manufacturing, Massachusetts 2019

A Holyoke man has pleaded guilty to making a machine gun, according to a recent court filing.

Edward V. Laboursoliere, 50, pleaded guilty to one count of knowingly possessing an unregistered firearm, one count of possessing a firearm unidentified by a serial number, and one count of making a firearm, all in violation of the National Firearms Act.

The charges stem from a search of Laboursoliere’s home on April 8, 2018, after his wife reported that he had been storing hazardous materials. During the search, a short-barrel rifle machine gun was recovered, and Laboursoliere admitted to making the machine gun during the Obama administration.

Laboursoliere is scheduled to be sentenced on June 5, 2019. He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.

The National Firearms Act prohibits the making and possession of unregistered firearms, including machine guns. The law requires that all firearms be registered with the federal government and be identified by a unique serial number.

Laboursoliere’s case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Deepika Bains Shukla of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts. The investigation was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, with assistance from the Holyoke Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police.

The sentencing of Laboursoliere will be held on June 5, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. in U.S. District Court in Springfield.
