Gowanda Man Gets 15 Years for Distributing Child Porn

A Gowanda man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for distributing child pornography, a crime that carries a minimum sentence of five years and a maximum of 20 years, along with a $250,000 fine.

Shane Aurand, 20, was convicted of distributing child pornography after he was found to have shared sexually explicit pictures of a seven-year-old child he had babysat at his residence. The pictures were shared with an undercover law enforcement agent on the messaging application Kik in March 2017.

Aurand also offered to send the undercover agent pictures of other children if he received child pornography in return, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie Lamarque, who is handling the case.

The sentencing is the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Gary Loeffert.

U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr. announced the sentencing. Contact Barbara Burns at (716) 843-5817 for more information.

The case highlights the dangers of child pornography and the importance of law enforcement working to combat this crime.

Aurand’s sentence is a significant blow to those who would seek to exploit children for their own gain. The Gowanda community can feel safer knowing that justice has been served.
