Ohio Man Accused of Illicit Firearms Trade
William Draher, a 71-year-old resident of Homeworth, Ohio, has been indicted for his alleged role in illegally buying and selling firearms without a license.
According to authorities, Draher engaged in the business of selling firearms without a license between January 2013 and July 2018. The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Draher, if convicted, faces a sentence to be determined by the Court after review of factors unique to this case, including any prior criminal records, his role in the offense, and the characteristics of the violation.
The statutory maximum sentence will not be exceeded, and in most cases, it will be less than the maximum. Assistant U.S. Attorney David M. Toepfer is handling the case.
An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
It’s worth noting that this is not a typical case of gun trafficking, but rather a situation where an individual was selling firearms without the proper licensure. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives took the lead in the investigation.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to firearms laws and regulations. Those who engage in illicit activities related to firearms can face serious consequences.
