Stacie Saunders Sentenced for Queens Deed Theft Ring

New York – The grim reaper of the real estate world, Stacie Saunders, has been given a taste of her own medicine. The former mortgage broker was sentenced today to three to nine years in prison for her role in a Queens deed theft ring that preyed on vulnerable homeowners and left them homeless.

With an arsenal of deceit and a heartless disregard for the law, Saunders, along with Marcus Wilcher, disbarred attorney Anyekache Hercules, Jerry Currin, and Dean Lloyd, stole three homes from unsuspecting New Yorkers or their estates. The ring’s sordid enterprise yielded over $1 million in illegal profits through fraudulent home sales.

Queens County’s judicial system delivered a final blow to the gang when Saunders was found guilty on 18 charges last May. Today’s sentence marks the culmination of the Office of the Attorney General’s (OAG) relentless pursuit of justice for the victims of this sinister scheme.

The ring targeted elderly and vulnerable homeowners in Jamaica and St. Albans, Queens. They manipulated legal documents, stole identities, and orchestrated a web of lies to sell stolen homes at rock-bottom prices to unsuspecting investors. The proceeds were then funneled through forged bank accounts and various shell companies under their control.

While Saunders was the final defendant to be convicted, she is far from the first to pay for her crimes. Hercules received one and a half to three years in prison for Scheme to Defraud in the First Degree, while Wilcher was sentenced to three to nine years for Grand Larceny in the Second Degree. Currin and Lloyd pleaded guilty to felony counts of Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the First Degree.

Attorney General Letitia James stood firm against this type of fraud, vowing to protect homeowners from scammers like Saunders and her cronies. “New Yorkers should never have to fear losing their homes to scammers and thieves,” said AG James. “My office will continue to fight deed theft and other frauds wherever they arise.”
