TOPEKA, KAN – Lamar Ray Steele, a 26-year-old resident of Topeka, Kansas, received a 43-month federal prison sentence for his role in an armed robbery at the Check Into Cash store located at 3711 S.W. Plaza Drive on June 4, 2014, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Tom Beall.
In a gritty display of criminal partnership, Steele pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting a commercial robbery. During his plea, he confessed that he was the driver in the botched heist. As his twin brother, Charles Lamar Steele, 26, entered the store with a firearm, Lamar waited outside in their getaway car. The brothers made their escape after the failed attempt.
Charles Lamar Steele and Zennie Lee Vasser, 33, are also facing charges in this case. While Vasser has already been sentenced to 43 months for his involvement, Charles’ sentencing is scheduled for December 12th.
Tom Beall expressed his commendation for the relentless efforts of the Topeka Police Department, the FBI, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jared Maag in bringing this crime spree to a halt.
This sentence sends a stern message about the consequences faced by those who engage in violent crime and financial fraud within our communities. The justice system continues to work tirelessly to protect the citizens of Topeka from such criminal activities.
