ST. LOUIS MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO POSSESSING PIPE BOMBS, METHAMPHETAMINE
A Jefferson County man has admitted to possessing two pipe bombs and methamphetamine, sparking concerns for public safety in the region.
Douglas Moore, 47, of Byrnes Mill, was stopped by a deputy with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office on May 11, 2021, while driving a 2004 Suzuki Aerio with expired license plates. He had an active warrant at the time.
During the arrest, the deputy found the pipe bombs and methamphetamine in the car. Moore was on probation at the time and has pending charges in Ste. Genevieve County and Jefferson County circuit courts.
An investigation by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the St. Louis Regional Bomb and Arson Unit, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives led to Moore’s guilty plea in front of U.S. District Judge Ronnie L. White to one felony count of possession of an unregistered destructive device.
Moore is scheduled to be sentenced in July and faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, a $10,000 fine, or both. Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Martin is prosecuting the case.
The discovery of the pipe bombs and methamphetamine raises concerns about the potential risks posed by Moore’s actions. The investigation highlights the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies in keeping the community safe.
As the case moves forward, the community can expect to see updates on Moore’s sentencing and any further actions taken by law enforcement.
