Tampa Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Enticing Minors
Tampa, Florida – In a shocking case of child abuse, Steven Andrew Gunn, a 31-year-old resident of Winter Haven, has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity and possession of child sexual abuse material. The court also ordered Gunn to serve a lifetime of supervised release and register as a sex offender.
Gunn pled guilty on March 28, 2024, to the charges against him. This comes after investigators discovered that between September 2020 and October 2020, Gunn used his cell phone to engage in sexually explicit online conversations with an 11-year-old child. During these conversations, Gunn discussed his desire to engage in sexual activity with the child and sent videos of himself masturbating.
But that was not all. Investigators obtained a federal search warrant for Gunn’s cell phone and discovered that he was also having sexually explicit online conversations with another 14-year-old child. During an interview with law enforcement, Gunn admitted that he had used Snapchat to solicit child sexual abuse material from multiple girls ranging between 8 and 13 years old.
This is not Gunn’s first run-in with the law. According to court records, Gunn had been previously convicted of child abuse in 2012 when he had sexually explicit conversations with another minor on the internet. It is clear that Gunn has a history of exploiting children and that his actions have severe consequences.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation—Orlando Resident Agency. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Erin Claire Favorit and Ross Roberts. This is another case brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Gunn’s sentence is a stark reminder of the severity of child exploitation and the importance of protecting our children from predators like him. As a society, we must do everything in our power to prevent such heinous crimes from happening and to bring perpetrators like Gunn to justice.
