Kyle Dale Ritsema, Child Pornography Production, Florida 2024

Kyle Dale Ritsema, a 35-year-old assistant principal at Cypress Creek Middle High School in Land O’ Lakes, Florida, has been indicted on federal charges related to the production, distribution, and possession of child pornography. The Tampa-based U.S. Attorney’s Office announced the grand jury’s return of the indictment, marking a grim fall for a man entrusted with student leadership.

The indictment alleges Ritsema, in or about March 2015, employed, used, persuaded, induced, enticed, and coerced a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing visual depictions. Authorities say those images were not only created but shared—specifically, two visual depictions of child pornography were distributed by Ritsema on or about March 21, 2015.

If convicted on all counts, Ritsema faces a maximum of 30 years in federal prison for production of child pornography, with a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years. Each of the two distribution counts carries a 20-year maximum, and the possession charge adds up to 10 additional years behind bars. All penalties are cumulative and carry lifetime consequences.

Ritsema’s position as assistant principal at a Pasco County school adds a layer of institutional betrayal to the charges. Government records confirm his employment at Cypress Creek Middle High School, where he held a role of authority over students and staff alike—making the alleged crimes all the more disturbing to families and educators in the community.

The investigation was led by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, with support from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Assistant United States Attorney Frank Murray is prosecuting the case, underscoring the federal weight behind the charges.

An indictment is not a conviction. Kyle Dale Ritsema is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. However, the evidence presented to the grand jury has cleared the threshold for prosecution—a process now set to unfold under intense public and legal scrutiny.
