Adam Daniel Young, a 27-year-old man from Sarasota, Florida, has been indicted on federal charges tied to the receipt and possession of child pornography. The announcement, made by U.S. Attorney Maria Chapa Lopez, lands Young in the crosshairs of a nationwide crackdown on child sexual exploitation.
Young faces one count of receiving and two counts of possessing child pornography, crimes that carry a potential 20-year prison sentence on each count. The charges stem from forensic evidence pulled from his computer, which revealed more than 3,000 illicit images and 25 videos, many depicting children under the age of 12.
According to court documents, Young used an online file sharing program to receive and attempt to receive child pornography. The digital trail left behind provided investigators with a clear path to his arrest. Federal authorities stress that every file represents a real child victim, often produced under violent and abusive conditions.
The case was investigated by the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force, a multi-agency unit that includes the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office and the Bradenton Police Department. The collaboration underscores the layered approach federal and local agencies take in tracking down offenders who exploit children online.
Assistant United States Attorney Jennifer L. Peresie is leading the prosecution. Young remains presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, as guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. The indictment marks a critical step in the judicial process, but not a final judgment.
This case falls under Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative launched in 2006 to combat child sexual abuse.
