GRIMY NEWS ALERT: Colleen A. McQueeney, 56, of Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, has been charged with the grim crime of embezzling a staggering $40,000 from the Women’s Consortium of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.
The alleged theft, which spanned between October 2015 and January 2016, is said to have been concealed by McQueeney through ATM withdrawals and fraudulent checks. The U.S. Attorney Bruce D. Brandler has laid out the charges against the defendant, who served as the statewide Treasurer of the Women’s Consortium.
McQueeney is now facing a harrowing 10-year prison sentence under federal law if convicted, in addition to fines and supervised release following imprisonment. A plea agreement has been filed, suggesting that McQueeney intends to plead guilty and make full restitution.
This case has been the subject of an extensive investigation by both the Pennsylvania Department of State Bureau of Charitable Organizations and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney James T. Clancy leading the prosecution.
It is crucial to remember that Indictments and Criminal Informations are merely allegations, and all persons charged are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. The severity of the offense and the factors considered by the Judge during sentencing will ultimately determine McQueeney’s fate.
