Springfield Man Sentenced for Cocaine Sales

BOSTON – A Springfield man has been sentenced for his role in selling cocaine in the city. Bryan Murph, 24, was sentenced to 14 months in prison and three years of supervised release for his involvement in the cocaine trade.

According to officials, Murph sold crack cocaine to a cooperating witness on two occasions in February 2012. The evidence was gathered as part of an ongoing investigation into cocaine distribution in the Springfield area. In April 2013, Murph pleaded guilty to two counts of possession with intent to distribute and distribution of cocaine base.

The case was prosecuted by Alex J. Grant of U.S. Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz’s Springfield Branch Office Unit. The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Division, Hampden County District Attorney’s Office, Massachusetts State Police, Springfield Police Department, and Hampden County Sheriff’s Office.

U.S. District Court Judge Michael A. Ponsor handed down the sentence in U.S. District Court in Springfield. Murph’s sentence is a result of his involvement in the cocaine trade and his decision to plead guilty to the charges against him.

The sentencing of Murph is a significant blow to the cocaine trade in Springfield and demonstrates the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat the sale and distribution of illicit substances. The investigation and prosecution of this case are a testament to the collaboration and dedication of the agencies involved.

As the city of Springfield continues to grapple with the issue of cocaine distribution, the sentencing of Murph serves as a reminder of the consequences of involvement in the cocaine trade.
