Tiesha Lasha Henderson, a 30-year-old resident of Erie, Pennsylvania, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for violating federal narcotics laws. The indictment, announced by Acting United States Attorney Soo C. Song, charges Henderson with possessing with intent to distribute forty grams or more of fentanyl.
The charge stems from an incident on March 15, 2017, in which Henderson allegedly possessed the large quantity of fentanyl. The law provides for a maximum total sentence of 40 years in prison, a fine of $5,000,000, or both, if Henderson is found guilty.
Assistant United States Attorney Marshall J. Piccinini is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. The indictment is the result of an investigation conducted by the Erie County Detective Bureau, the Erie Police Department, and the Millcreek Township Police Department.
An indictment is an accusation, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. The case against Henderson will proceed to trial, where the government will present its evidence and Henderson will have the opportunity to defend herself.
The possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute is a serious crime that carries significant penalties. Fentanyl is a highly addictive and deadly drug that has been linked to thousands of overdose deaths in the United States. The federal government has been cracking down on fentanyl trafficking in recent years, and Henderson’s indictment is just the latest example of this effort.
The investigation leading to Henderson’s indictment was a collaborative effort between local and federal law enforcement agencies. The Erie County Detective Bureau, the Erie Police Department, and the Millcreek Township Police Department all played a role in gathering evidence and building the case against Henderson.
As the case against Henderson moves forward, the community will be watching to see how the justice system handles this serious crime. The outcome of the trial will depend on the evidence presented and the arguments made by both the prosecution and the defense. For now, Henderson remains innocent until proven guilty, and the government will have to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt.
