Hartford Dealer ‘Bebo’ Linked to Fatal Rocky Hill Overdose
ROCKY HILL, CT – A 25-year-old Hartford man is facing federal charges after investigators linked him to the fatal overdose of a 29-year-old in Rocky Hill back in 2016. EDWIN ESCRIBANO, also known as “Bebo,” was arrested yesterday and charged with distributing heroin and fentanyl, the deadly combination that claimed the victim’s life.
The case, brought by U.S. Attorney Deirdre M. Daly’s office, is part of a larger statewide crackdown on narcotics dealers peddling poison. On September 14, 2016, Rocky Hill Police responded to a local restaurant to find a man unresponsive and not breathing. Paramedics were unable to revive him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. A subsequent search of the bathroom revealed a cellophane tourniquet and syringe containing heroin and fentanyl.
Investigators didn’t stop at the scene. A deep dive into the victim’s cellphone records allegedly revealed that ESCRIBANO had supplied the lethal drugs shortly before the overdose. The evidence, according to court documents, directly connects “Bebo” to the chain of events leading to the man’s death. This isn’t just about possession; it’s about a dealer knowingly putting deadly substances into the hands of a user.
ESCRIBANO made his initial appearance yesterday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Donna F. Martinez in Hartford. He was ordered detained pending a detention hearing scheduled for June 2 at 12:30 p.m. Prosecutors are clearly taking this case seriously, seeking to keep him off the streets while they build their case.
The complaint charges ESCRIBANO with possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of fentanyl and heroin – offenses that carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison. U.S. Attorney Daly cautioned that the complaint is merely an accusation, and ESCRIBANO is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
The investigation was a joint effort between the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Rocky Hill Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney John T. Pierpont, Jr. is prosecuting the case. Grimy Times will continue to follow this case as it moves through the federal court system, bringing you the unvarnished truth about the drug trade and its devastating consequences.
